Brother Interview: Kurt Denneler '10

This week's brother interview is on brother Kurt Denneler '10!

Basic Stuff:
1. Your name, as you would prefer it to be stated?
Kurt W. Denneler

2. Your current location?
Delran, NJ

3. Your Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn account links (or other websites as well)?

Fraternity Stuff:
4. Badge Number?
138 (Omanyte)

5. Pledge Class Name?
Oops-ilon

6. Fraternity Nickname, if you remember it?
Wrecking Ball

7. Story behind how you got your nickname, if you remember it?
As I remember, my tree (Rozycki) had a long-standing tradition of nicknames with the word “ball” in them. The nickname originated from my one and only time playing flag-football for the fraternity. I showed up to the field without a proper understanding of how fluffy the rules were. Flags were thrown on almost every play, and I knocked a few AXP’s to the ground in the process. Hence the nickname.

8. Your fondest memory of being a Phi Psi?
Day-to-day interactions with my brothers will always be the fondest memories, but winning Greek Week (the first time) was probably my favorite of all. I remember the competition being tied, with the tug-of-war as the final event. I anchored our team to victory that day. You would have thought we won the Super Bowl. Those wins were critical to the chapter’s overall confidence going forward. We went on to earn Grand Chapter not long after.

9. Your most embarrassing moment as a Phi Psi?
I would probably say I was embarrassed that my own responsibilities prevented me from participating in service and chapter events as much as I wanted to. But I may have pissed my pants once, so we can go with that for comedic effect.

10. Your proudest moment as a Phi Psi?
Getting my Upsilons.

11. Any unique memories from your time as a Phi Psi?
Only alcohol-related time-travel.

12. Any fraternal advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Make sure you are in it for the right reasons. I didn’t have the best intentions at the beginning, but in the end, I left the chapter knowing that I was a better person for having had this experience. Being a Phi Psi is like chicken soup for the soul (Or something along those lines).

13. When was the last time you visited Rowan or the chapter?
A year or so.

14. What is favorite event the chapter holds?
Pat’s and Geno’s cheesesteak night for rush week. Not even close.

15. Who's the 1 brother you want to reconnect with / see interviewed here?
My big, Brian Ferraro.

16. Name 1 friend you made in NJE you still keep in touch with...
All of the Upsilons of course. But it’s widely known that I love me some Kevin Hartnett. I try to keep in touch with as many brothers as a can.

Career Stuff:
17. Year you graduated from Rowan?
2012

18. Degree(s) you graduated Rowan with?
BA Public Relations MINOR Communication Studies

19. Any advanced degrees or certifications you have?
Negative

20. Your current occupation?
I am a content management specialist for an online wine sales company. I am responsible for the copy writing, formatting and image editing of each site’s product pages. Not exactly Public Relations, but it pays the bills. My company currently has two online entities: WTSO.com and CenterStageWines.com

21. Number of years in that occupation?
Just over two years.

22. Any career advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Pick something you truly want to do. Figure out what you’re passionate about, something that will make you want to put the work in. When you figure out what that is, intern (or whatever your craft calls for) like your life depends on it. No one in the “real world” cares about your grades or your achievements in college; they care about your experience. It’s really that simple.

23. What's one piece of advice you'd give every undergraduate about networking?
Treat everyone you encounter with respect. You never know when you may need a favor.

Relationships/Family/Personal Stuff:
24. Are you currently in a relationship? If so, with who and for how long?
I’ve been with my college sweetheart Lauren for 4+ years, and I love her very much. (She is probably going to read this - Hi Babe!).

25. Do you have kids? If so, how old and their names?
No

26. Hobbies that you are currently into? What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’ve recently become very serious about my health and have lost 50 pounds in the last 8 months. Learning how to eat better has taken a lot of effort. I consume a lot of media. One example is my obsession with Game of Thrones. I’ve read all the books from A Song of Ice and Fire, I own all the graphic novels, and I am currently gathering all season of the show on blue ray. I have a problem. I’m also a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan. Which means the Dallas Cowboys losing to the Packers in the playoffs is satisfying enough to hold me over until next season. I also have a great love for fantasy football. If you ever need advice, I’m your man.

27. Anything you would like to share with other brothers through the blog regarding your relationship/family/personal life?
I went to Walt Disney World in November.
