Brother Inteview: Matt Bellifemine '07

This wee's brother interview is on brother Matt Bellifemine '07!

Basic Stuff:
1. Your name, as you would prefer it to be stated?
Matt Bellifemine

2. Your current location?
Brick, NJ

3. Your Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn account links?
I have a Facebook and Linkedin. I am too lazy to look up the links, but I am the one and only Matthew Bellifemine on both.

Fraternity Stuff:
4. Badge Number?
(There’s no return from) 86

5. Pledge Class Name?
NU 9… or 8. or 7. Depends on who you ask.

6. Fraternity Nickname, if you remember it?
Durf.

7. Story behind how you got your nickname, if you remember it?
My big, Ricky Pearsall III, wanted that as his high school nickname. It never stuck so I had the privilege of receiving it. Still hasn’t stuck…

8. Your fondest memory of being a Phi Psi?
Any 6am service event. You don’t really know someone until you force them to wake up at ungodly hours to do community service. Two that come to mind were cleaning out a burned down house so Habitat for Humanity could open a not for profit thrift store and chaperoning the Special Olympics of bowling. I never expected to see such sheer looks of appreciation from parents or participants.

9. Your most embarrassing moment as a Phi Psi?
Broadcasting a “compromising” video of myself and my wife on the tv at 411 when all of Theta Phi came over to get to know us for Greek Week (she was also in the room). On the plus side, my physique was approved by both parties…

10. Your proudest moment as a Phi Psi?
Personally: accepting the accredited with honors plaque at the 2009 WWLS, As a brother of NJE: winning Grand Chapter

11. Any unique memories from your time as a Phi Psi?
Tidal Rave, Skunk Golf, Pulling Loogie’s car out of the sand, negotiating better rates in Delaware, DC Alpha/brother pushups/energy drink concentrate, PLA/WWLS/ALA, being a founder of the secrets in 411’s garage, Hawkeye Bitch… the list goes on and on.

12. Any fraternal advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Enjoy every second of it. You only experience college once (even if it is 4+ years). Get up and get out. Take advantage of all the responsibilities in addition to the parties. It’ll still let you look back on the fun nights (I had more than I could count), but it will also allow you to come away with a complete collegiate career.

13. When was the last time you visited Rowan or the chapter?
I was at the Fall 13 Alumni dinner. I plan on making it to the Alumni BBQ (and more events).

14. Who's the 1 brother you want to reconnect with / see interviewed here?
Brian Hancock

15. Name 1 friend you made in NJE you still keep in touch with...
One? Why would I join a fraternity for one? Bob Schaefer, Pickle, Rumpy, Newby, Joe Hankins, Loogie, Rudy, Andrew Tomaino, Gunn etc.

Career Stuff:
16. Year you graduated from Rowan?
Spring 2011

17. Degree(s) you graduated Rowan with?
B.S. Biological Sciences, B.A. Environmental Studies, Honors Concentration

18. Any advanced degrees or certifications you have?
Working on my LEED certification.

19. Your current occupation?
Recycling Consultant

20. Number of years in that occupation?
3 years, 1 month

21. Any career advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Knowing your stuff is only half the battle. You have to be able to apply knowledge and generate results. You’ll never get the corner office if you are satisfied with the status quo.

22. What's one piece of advice you'd give every undergraduate about networking?
Branch out every chance you get. Connecting with people is how you make that impression that’ll get your foot in the door and resume into someone’s hands. The worst case scenario is you make a friend and gain insight into fields outside of your interests.

Relationships/Family/Personal Stuff:
23. Are you currently in a relationship? If so, with who and for how long?
Yes, Ashley Jeanne. Together for 8 years, married for 4 months.

24. Do you have kids? If so, how old and their names?
I am still the child in the relationship, if that counts. Or we have a somewhat iconic bunny named Mickey Mouse or MAUS!

25. Hobbies that you are currently into? What do you like to do in your spare time?
Owning/maintaining a house is more than a hobby. Other than that, I like outdoor activities, craft beer, going to AC (soon to RIP), mud runs, and pretty much anything adventurous.

26. Anything you would like to share with other brothers through the blog regarding your relationship/family/personal life?
My younger brother Nick will be a attending Rowan this Fall as a freshman. He completes the list of my cousin Jason (badge #37), sister Gina (Sigma Sigma Sigma.. who?), and myself. Hopefully we have legacy material on our hands!
