Brother Interview: Nick Schaeffer '06

This week's brother interview is on brother Nick Schaeffer '06.  A former chapter president, Nick is now spending his time as a pilot, husband and father.

In the brother interviews to come, we are hoping to spice things up and make each interview a little more unique.  I will be posting a list of brothers that I plan on interviewing on the Facebook alumni group and through email.  I would be happy to take any questions that you may want to know from these brothers and ask them as part of the collection of questions I normally ask.  Only reasonable questions will be considered and the brother I am interviewing reserves all right to answer any questions asked, including the ones I normally ask.  Also, if any brother does not answer any questions, I will simply not post the question instead of showing the question and "No Answer" like I did last week.

Basic Stuff:
1. Your name, as you would prefer it to be stated?
Nick Schaeffer

2. Your current location?
Stafford Township, NJ 08050

3. Your Facebook/Twitter account links?
If you stalk me on Facebook, you will find me. I’m a nice guy so if you want to be digital friends I’ll say yes. I don’t Twitter…I personally don’t care what other people are thinking or doing. I’ve got better things to do like sift through my Facebook newsfeed.

Fraternity Stuff:
4. Badge Number?
81

5. Pledge Class Name?
The Lambda Six. BeeOWheep!

6. Fraternity Nickname, if you remember it?
The Fugitive.

7. Story behind how you got your nickname, if you remember it?
I was always doing something wrong.

8. Your fondest memory of being a Phi Psi?
Winning the Greek Cup. Rowan had to retire the Greek Cup competition after NJE won. We were that good.

10. Your proudest moment as a Phi Psi?
NJE earning Grand Chapter. That award was earned by every brother since we were formed as a colony.

11. Any unique memories from your time as a Phi Psi?
All the philanthropy events stand out. I remember helping to feed the homeless in Philly, light the night walks, helping an 8 year old and her family raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the list goes on.

12. Any fraternal advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
The decisions and actions you make now (for better or worse) will affect you well after you graduate. Nothing is free and you are entitled to nothing. Be a Phi Psi everywhere you go by working hard and being honest.

Career Stuff:
13. Year you graduated from Rowan?
2009

14. Degree(s) you graduated Rowan with?
Civil Engineering

15. Any advanced degrees or certifications you have?
Enrolled in MS Engineering Management @ Rowan.

16. Your current occupation?
I am a reserve KC-10 Pilot in the USAF and Systems Engineer at the FAA.

17. Number of years in that occupation?
Three years as a pilot, however, I have been in the USAF since 2002. I have been a Systems Engineer since March 2013.

18. Any career advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
See #12. My Fraternal advice covers this.

Relationships/Family/Personal Stuff:
19. Are you currently in a relationship? If so, with who and for how long?
I am happily married to my wife Stephanie. We have been married for 2 years and have known each other for over 4 years.

20. Do you have kids? If so, how old and their names?
Yes. We have a boy (4 month old) named Owen. Owen and Stephanie are the best things that have ever happened to me.

21. Hobbies that you are currently into? What do you like to do in your spare time?
The usual new parent stuff…changing diapers, midnight feedings, and learning to speak “Baby”. Spare time? (Laughs) If I do stumble upon some spare time…I like to run, swim, fly, travel, boat, and ski. My wife and I do take long walks…and sometimes it’s on a beach.
