Brother Interview: Randy Morton '00


This week's brother interview is on founder, Randy Morton '00!

Basic Stuff: 
1. Your name, as you would prefer it to be stated? 
Randy Morton. My real/given name is Randall B Morton but I’ve always hated that. The only time I usually hear Randall is when my wife is either mad at me or wants to get my attention lol.

2. Your current location? 
Hainesport, NJ

6. Fraternity Nickname, if you remember it?
Alumni

7. Story behind how you got your nickname, if you remember it? 
I know, it’s not very unique or funny like the others but it’s simple and fit me because I was actually considered an alumni by the time we were chartered.

8. Your fondest memory of being a Phi Psi? 
Being asked by Brother Rozycki to help him start a fraternity. Mind you, I had transferred to Rowan from Mercer County College and had no intentions of joining a fraternity because I was only going to be there for two years.

9. Your most embarrassing moment as a Phi Psi? 
When living in Mansion Park with one of our brothers, Don Steever and we had to evacuate the apt because of his cooking.

10. Your proudest moment as a Phi Psi? 
I would have to say watching how Rich Rozycki’s dream came a reality when the colony became a chapter

11. Any unique memories from your time as a Phi Psi? 
The road trip I took to Delaware with brothers Clayton, Rozycki and Chaty.

12. Any fraternal advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today? 
Enjoy your time in the fraternity and know that whatever brothers you meet, can become some of your longtime and best friends.

13. When was the last time you visited Rowan or the chapter? 
Last year’s alumni picnic. 

14. Name 1 friend you made in NJE you still keep in touch with...
Bill Clayton and Marc Chaty. I know, that’s two for those of you who are counting.

Career Stuff: 
15. Year you graduated from Rowan? 
1998

16. Degree(s) you graduated Rowan with? 
B.A. in Communications

17. Any advanced degrees or certifications you have? 
I’m a certified 911 EMD(Emergency Medical Dispatcher), and also certified to check people for warrants and their driver’s license to make sure it’s valid. I’m certified in CPR and am also an EMT and firefighter.

18. Your current occupation? 
Dispatcher for local PD

19. Number of years in that occupation? 
Almost 10

20. Any career advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today? 
Just pay attention in class and do you best. However, always be thinking in the back of your mind that you may not end up doing what you went to school for like myself.

21. What's one piece of advice you'd give every undergraduate about networking? 
Always keep in touch with any friends you make in school and outside of school. You never know when you may need help with getting that job you always wanted.

Relationships/Family/Personal Stuff: 
22. Are you currently in a relationship? If so, with who and for how long? 
Yes. I have been married to Melanie for 13 ½ years and have been together for 20.

23. Do you have kids? If so, how old and their names? 
Yes. I have boy/girl twins who just turned two at the end of July.  My son's name is Ryan and my daughter's name is Hannah.

24. Hobbies that you are currently into? What do you like to do in your spare time? 
Currently, I like working out and being a team beachbody coach. I also like to ski and mountain bike.
