This week's brother interview is on brother Andy MacLane '10!

Basic Stuff:
1. Your name, as you would prefer it to be stated?
Andy MacLane

2. Your current location?
Lambertville, NJ

3. Your Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn account links (or other websites as well)?
Twitter: @And_Y_Mac
LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/pub/andrew-maclane/58/ab8/484

Fraternity Stuff:
4. Badge Number?
126

5. Pledge Class Name?
Tau

6. Fraternity Nickname, if you remember it?
Whiteout

7. Story behind how you got your nickname, if you remember it?
There were two stories associated with it, but Sean Kaiser tells one of them a bit better than I will so you can ask him. The first story is attributed to the fact that my big (Mr. Kaiser himself) would always try and get me to drink, but as he likes to put it, I’m a “bitch at drinking”. That being said, at that time I had never blacked out from a night of partying, hence the name WHITEout.

8. Your fondest memory of being a Phi Psi?
Being an educator with Sean Kennedy and having the opportunity to bring in 10 wonderful sprouts, otherwise known as the Omegas

9. Your most embarrassing moment as a Phi Psi?
Dancing at mixers before I decided to be fantastic at it.

10. Your proudest moment as a Phi Psi?
It had to be when we went as a chapter to help clean up the homes devastated by Sandy in Manahawkin. We had a great turnout and it was really moving seeing people so grateful for the help we were giving them in such a tragic time. To me, it really defined our slogan of “the great joy of serving others.”

11. Any unique memories from your time as a Phi Psi?
I lived temporarily at 411 and Lehigh two separate times due to work. Both times had some really great memories and allowed me to get to know a lot of brothers better; both those who lived in the houses at the time and those who came to visit on occasion.

12. Any fraternal advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Be yourselves. I think this chapter has always strived on the diversity of people we bring in, and each of us has some sort of skill or talent that can be utilized to improve our chapter.

13. When was the last time you visited Rowan or the chapter?
Last visit to Rowan was the night before the Spring 2014 graduation
Last visit to the chapter was the Spring 2014 initiation

14. What is favorite event the chapter holds?
I’ve been really enjoying how homecoming is becoming an event that brings out more and more alumni, myself included. This is probably my favorite because it gives me the chance to catch up with brothers I don’t keep in touch with regularly, and meet some of the older guys whom I’d never met before.

15. Who's the 1 brother you want to reconnect with / see interviewed here?
Mike Iatesta or Ryan Parisi

16. Name 1 friend you made in NJE you still keep in touch with...
There are a whole bunch of guys I still keep in touch with but I’d say Hugo Riveros, Sean Kaiser, Mike Hedayat, and my roommates of 12 Washington (Mr. Evan Stone, Kevin Hartnett and Steve Higbee) are the ones I interact with the most.

Career Stuff:
17. Year you graduated from Rowan?
Spring 2013

18. Degree(s) you graduated Rowan with?
Bachelor’s in Civil & Environmental Engineering

19. Any advanced degrees or certifications you have?
Currently have my E.I.T. certificate, and hope to get my Professional Engineer’s license down the road

20. Your current occupation?
Assistant Engineer in Roadway Design at the New Jersey Department of Transportation

21. Number of years in that occupation?
Just hit the one year mark

22. Any career advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
It’s very rare that a person straight out of college knows exactly what they want to do and exactly where they want to work. Even when they do, sometimes the job might not live up to the hype you once gave it. That being said, never compromise for less than what you feel you’re capable of. If you’re not satisfied at your job, find a way that you could improve it. And if that doesn’t work, don’t be afraid to look elsewhere, period.

23. What's one piece of advice you'd give every undergraduate about networking?
It’s a truth that I don’t agree with but it’s a truth nonetheless – it’s more WHO you know than WHAT you know. If you know someone who can get you in the door, ask them. If you have an internship or job that you and your supervisor felt you did well in, keep in touch with them. They can provide not only career advice, but having professional references are a key to successfully getting the job you want.

Relationships/Family/Personal Stuff:
24. Are you currently in a relationship? If so, with who and for how long?
Yes. I am dating Sarah O’Brien and we have been together since April 2013

25. Do you have kids? If so, how old and their names?
No, ask me in a few years

26. Hobbies that you are currently into? What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m the type of person who loves learning and trying new things, so this list will be rather extensive:

I enjoy running, biking, going to shows, playing guitar, cooking, reading, gardening/composting. In addition in my spare time I am learning computer programming, am attempting to learn French, am learning photography, and enjoy exploring the world around me.

27. Anything you would like to share with other brothers through the blog regarding your relationship/family/personal life?
I hope everyone reading this is doing well!
