Brother Interview: Brett Juchniewicz '05

This week's brother interview is on brother Brett Juchniewicz '05!

Basic Stuff:
1. Your name, as you would prefer it to be stated?
Brett Juchniewicz

2. Your current location?
Cherry Hill, NJ

3. Your Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn account links (or other websites as well)?

Fraternity Stuff:
4. Badge Number?
68

5. Pledge Class Name?
Iota, Spring ’05

6. Fraternity Nickname, if you remember it?
Hercules Rockefeller

7. Story behind how you got your nickname, if you remember it?
It’s one of the names that Homer tries to change his name to in an episode of the Simpsons because a TV show has a character with his name, so he wanted to change it when things go awry in the show.

8. Your fondest memory of being a Phi Psi?
I’d have to say being an educator for the Lambda class. It was great being able to help bring in new members to the fraternity, and it was a challenge I was glad I took on. I’m happy I was able to give back to the fraternity to show my appreciation for them accepting me as a brother.

9. Your most embarrassing moment as a Phi Psi?
During the end of one of our meetings, I shared my words as we all do at the end, and I mentioned I was looking forward to big/little night coming up the following week. The problem is I forgot that the new members were there…

10. Your proudest moment as a Phi Psi?
I was really proud to have attended the formal as we celebrated the chapter’s 10th year. It was a great time to celebrate everything that we’ve done up to that point and I was happy to have been a part of that.

11. Any unique memories from your time as a Phi Psi?
Phi Psi is the reason that I wore women’s sweatpants for the only time in my life, and that was for our Gilligan’s Island skit we did for Greek Week. I was Gilligan of course. I also got a bloody nose in the middle of the performance but made it out in one piece!

12. Any fraternal advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Don’t ask me to team with you in flip cup because I suck at it. In all seriousness, if there is one thing I would have to say, it’s do your best to make Phi Psi your home away from home. No matter where life takes you, you’ll always have a place with the brothers both in the chapter and throughout the country. If you can do that, then I’d say you’ve truly made the most out of your experience as a Phi Psi.

13. When was the last time you visited Rowan or the chapter?
I came down for the alumni BBQ last summer.

14. What is favorite event the chapter holds?
Formal is definitely my favorite by far.

15. Who's the 1 brother you want to reconnect with / see interviewed here?
I’d have to say I’d like to see Warner Sigel as the next interview.

16. Name 1 friend you made in NJE you still keep in touch with...
Besides any of the brothers I see when I make a visit, I keep in touch with a few, especially Juan Delgado. That guy still owes me cookies.

Career Stuff:
17. Year you graduated from Rowan?
Winter ’08

18. Degree(s) you graduated Rowan with?
RTF

19. Your current occupation?
I have a bunch of jobs. My main gig is logging footage for NFL Films. On top of that, I film weddings in the area, and just got hired to assist camera during Flyers and Sixers games.

20. Number of years in that occupation?
This will be my 6th season with NFL Films.

21. Any career advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Have a good idea of what your goal is and know the path it takes to get to where you want. TV requires highly specialized skill so it’s to your benefit to really hone in on a certain area rather than be a jack-of-all-trades. You’re expected to know a lot right off of the bat and have to move quickly, so pick what part of the production you want to be in and focus mainly on that.

22. What's one piece of advice you'd give every undergraduate about networking?
One thing I’d have to say, and this might sound counter-intuitive, but do have a sense of humor when networking and interviewing. As much as need to be professional, it’s also important to be able to kick back and laugh every once in a while on the job. People who seem to be enjoyable make more of an impression than those who don’t.

Relationships/Family/Personal Stuff:
23. Are you currently in a relationship? If so, with who and for how long?
Nope. I’m single and ready to mingle!

24. Hobbies that you are currently into? What do you like to do in your spare time?
I do work out about 4 times a week, split between time with weights and running on nice days. I also play some guitar, mainly exploring different genres as my musical taste evolves over time. I’ve also recently been learning more about the cocktail culture as now things are trending to how they were back in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
