This week's brother interview is on brother Simon Lee '11!
Basic Stuff:
1. Your name, as you would prefer it to be stated?
Simon Lee
2. Your current location?
Medford, NJ
3. Your Facebook/Twitter account links?
Fraternity Stuff:
4. Badge Number?
153
5. Pledge Class Name?
Chi
6. Fraternity Nickname, if you remember it?
Banebi
7. Story behind how you got your nickname, if you remember it?
It’s really a 2 part-er. The whole nickname looks like Bambi, which is a long story that is much better told in person. But to get whoever is reading interested, it involves a camping trip, being lost, a small deer, bloody clothes and dinner. The Bane portion as I remember being told is for my immense dislike of Batman and my proportion of bulk almost like Bane.
8. Your fondest memory of being a Phi Psi?
My fondest memory of Phi Psi is the collection of all my memories regarding Phi Psi but especially events like the Phi Psi Feast and Back to the Boro. I made the turkey for the Phi Psi Feast the 2 years I was an undergrad and it was great just having all the guys around roughhousing and relaxing before everyone separated for the holiday.
9. Your most embarrassing moment as a Phi Psi?
The closest thing I can think of that is “embarrassing” was this past years 2013 greek week tug of war event. There was a bit of hype for me to do that event and we ended up losing.
10. Your proudest moment as a Phi Psi?
The proudest moment as a Phi Psi was during Back to the Boro. We were on our last house. I believe it was Andy MacLane, Michael Atkinson, Alex Kuhn and myself helping an old couple with their garden and moving carpet. We stayed helping them for an extra 2 hours past the event because we all wanted to be there not because we had to.
11. Any unique memories from your time as a Phi Psi?
All the memories are unique.
12. Any fraternal advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
I would suggest what my pledge brother, Alex Kuhn, suggested in his interview and that is to not break down your life into categories. Don’t think brothers are just brothers or friends are just friends and family only includes your immediate family. Brothers become friends, friends become brothers and they all to a degree become your family.
13. When was the last time you visited Rowan or the chapter?
2 or 3 weeks ago just to say hello.
14. What is your favorite event the chapter holds?
Phi Psi Feast
15. Who's the 1 brother you want to reconnect with / see interviewed here?
Matt Bellifemine
16. Name 1 friend you made in NJE you still keep in touch with...
Most brothers when I was active I still talk to even if only sparsely.
Career Stuff:
17. Year you graduated from Rowan?
2013
18. Degree(s) you graduated Rowan with?
Biology
19. Your current occupation?
Quality control technician
20. Number of years in that occupation?
I did quality control type work when I was in high school so collectively about 3ish-4 years. With my degree only about 5 months.
21. Any career advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Be as active as you can and take any opportunities that present themselves. That extra few hours of sleep is nice but the gratification of helping/interacting with others is better.
22. What's one piece of advice you'd give every undergraduate about networking?
Approach others to begin the first step. In general, everyone wants to help you so take the first step and ask for help/information/ect.
Relationships/Family/Personal Stuff:
23. Are you currently in a relationship? If so, with who and for how long?
Nope, single and it’s pretty great
24. Hobbies that you are currently into? What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I’m usually at the gym lifting heavy things up and then putting them back down. I also nap, eat quite often and build computers for fun. Those 4 things make up the bulk of my time in a given week.
