Brother Interview: Sean Peterson '07

This week's brother interview is on brother Sean Peterson '07!

Basic Stuff:
1. Your name, as you would prefer it to be stated?
Sean Peterson

2. Your current location?
Cape May Court House, NJ

3. Your Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn account links (or other websites as well)?
Facebook: Sean B. Peterson
Twitter: @sean_theoryX
LinkedIn: Sean Peterson

Fraternity Stuff:
4. Badge Number?
North Carolina Beta (East Carolina University): #156 (Alpha Gamma)
New Jersey Epsilon (Rowan University): #94 (Xi)

5. Your most embarrassing moment as a Phi Psi?
Being kidnapped on my 20th birthday at East Carolina (North Carolina Beta). They put a bandana over my head and rope tied me to a chair, then stuffed me in a truck and drove me across town to take a couple of pictures with our NC Beta flag and 8-9 brothers with me in the center. I have those pictures on my computer.

6. Your proudest moment as a Phi Psi?
Beating alcoholism and reinventing myself after a DUI conviction from 2011. My life got to this extreme because I strayed from the vision of living the Creed of Phi Kappa Psi. I recommitted my life to the Creed and focused on why I pledged this brotherhood nine years ago. I did all of this by distancing myself from the brothers that I've been close to, as well as all other friends. It was a mission that I had to complete on my own, with a minimal social life. It was worth the perseverance and sacrifice.

7. Any unique memories from your time as a Phi Psi?
Tidal Rave, Porn N Chicken night, road trips to Delaware for open parties with Loogie, mixers with Delta Zeta, Phi Sigma Sigma and Sigma Sigma Sigma (RIP forever), Greek Week 2008 and 2009, my 21st birthday at Mainstreet, Waterfall shot on my 21st birthday with brothers, Do work, merk bitches, Newby's 21st, “You'll know when I'm serious...”, hookah seshs with Al, Andrew, and the house brothers, Kirby (Graduate Coordinator of Greek Life 2007-2009), Ashley and Cory (Graduate Coordinators of Greek Life 2009-2010), being on great terms with Joe Mulligan (this is an extreme rarity for anyone in Greek Life).

8. Any fraternal advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Network with other fraternities and sororities, and run for positions on IGC and IFC. The chapter comes first and foremost, but the connections and experience that you can take away from the Greek governing boards are also valuable and could end up being important to your career at some point in life.

Also....don't blend in. BE THE BLENDER.

9. When was the last time you visited Rowan or the chapter?
Spring 2015 Initiation on March 11th.

10. Who's the 1 brother you want to reconnect with / see interviewed here?
Every brother from NJE that I have crossed paths with at some point. I value my experiences with each and every brother, good or bad.

Career Stuff:
11. Year you graduated from Rowan?
2010

12. Degree(s) you graduated Rowan with?
Bachelor of Arts in Law and Justice Studies; Minor in Business Administration

13. Your current occupation?
I am the Social Media Manager for theoryX, a boutique public relations, marketing, and social media agency that focuses on the electronic dance music industry. I manage social media for electronic dance music artists worldwide.

I work from home. It sounds luxurious. It's definitely not for everyone. I struggled adapting for the first couple of months, but you'll find success if you commit to waking up between 6am-8am, eat breakfast and shower before you sit down to work, and accept that you must constantly adapt your daily routine and approach, whether you change it up daily, weekly, or monthly. You will also learn how to master organization and execution because you will realize that doing less and spending more time in personal interests and pursuits can lead you to a 10-hour work week.

You will also develop skills that you never thought you would before...skills that can expedite your ultimate potential.

14. Number of years in that occupation?
6 months

15. Any career advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Work EVERY job you hold like you are going to do it for the rest of your life and demonstrate that ownership of it. You want something in this world, you need to put your big boy pants on and take it. You will be surprised what you can learn about yourself when you go the extra mile, every single time, no matter how small and trivial it might seem to you in the moment. In a world full of competition that is struggling to separate itself from the rest of the pack, you need to dive into any opportunity that comes your way with a grind and enthusiasm that is second to NONE. Kindly acknowledge any positive feedback you may receive, but jump right back into the mindset of staying hungry, that you have something to prove TO YOURSELF. Work on yourself first and the rest will fall into place, I promise. It always comes when you're not looking.

It's also okay if you feel hopeless when you graduate and feel that you need to apply to anything. If you end up choosing or settling for a job that you're not too fond about, look at this as a process that is leading you closer to your vision.

And NEVER take a job solely for the money...EVER.

Relationships/Family/Personal Stuff:
16. Hobbies that you are currently into? What do you like to do in your spare time?
Listening to music, going to shows, exercising, reading books and online content that challenge me, finding my next adventure, watching sports (Ravens, Red Sox, Sharks, MMA), cognitive enhancement (vitamins and supplements), graphic design, going to the beach year-round

17. Anything you would like to share with other brothers through the blog regarding your relationship/family/personal life?
I am currently focusing hard on my career, as well as figuring out what kind of business or blog I want to start. I have my eyes on a move to the west coast within the next two years. We'll see how my hand unfolds.

I have found true love very recently, and it's the ultimate feeling. I've also learned to let her go like a man as the ultimate act of love. True love for a woman is loving her without any benefit to yourself.
