Brother Interview: Chris Monsu '11

This week's interview is on brother Chris Monsu '11!

Basic Stuff:
1. Your name, as you would prefer it to be stated?
Chris Monsu

2. Your current location?
West Deptford, NJ

3. Your Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn account links (or other websites as well)? https://www.facebook.com/chris.monsu

Fraternity Stuff:
4. Badge Number?
148

5. Pledge Class Name?
Phi Class

6. Fraternity Nickname, if you remember it?
Teabag

7. Story behind how you got your nickname, if you remember it?
Family Tree tradition was to name your little after your favorite drink and something about the little. My big, Ryan Parisi’s favorite drink was iced tea, and he said that I really liked NASCAR and NASCAR is for douchebags, so teabag it was.

8. Your fondest memory of being a Phi Psi?
The entire experience during Cabo

9. Your most embarrassing moment as a Phi Psi?
Getting way too drunk at formal Spring ’12 as GP. I think everyone knows the story.

10. Your proudest moment as a Phi Psi?
My first Greekweek in 2011, at the end of the week it was announced that we had placed 3rd I believe, or 2nd. I’m not sure but point is it wasn’t 1st, however instead of pouting and complaining, everyone was still proud how we did and the amount of passion and fun we had. I was really proud to be part of a group that acted like that. Then we found out due to a math error we had actually won Greekweek and that was pretty cool too!

11. Any unique memories from your time as a Phi Psi?
Going to PLA and Cabo and being there by myself/getting there before the other NJE’s, and meeting brother’s from around the country and becoming good friends with complete strangers very quickly.

12. Any fraternal advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Go for as many positions as possible but if you take on a responsibility, step up to it. At the same time don’t put too much on your plate and end up not enjoying your time as an UG.

13. When was the last time you visited Rowan or the chapter?
Being recently graduated, May 2014

14. What is favorite event the chapter holds?
As an undergrad, Initiation was my favorite event, I imagine that will remain the same as an alumni.

15. Who's the 1 brother you want to reconnect with / see interviewed here?
Sean Kaiser

16. Name 1 friend you made in NJE you still keep in touch with...
To name 1, Mike Hedayat, but there’s a lot.

Career Stuff:
17. Year you graduated from Rowan?
2014

18. Degree(s) you graduated Rowan with?
Accounting

19. Any advanced degrees or certifications you have?
Nope

20. Your current occupation?
Deckhand for the Army Corps of Engineers

21. Number of years in that occupation?
Starting my fourth Summer as a deckhand and looking to go full time and advance from there.

22. Any career advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
It’s never too early to do some soul searching to find out where you want to go after graduating. You don’t need it laid out step by step but have a direction to go in. You don’t want to graduate and find yourself saying “well now what?”

23. What's one piece of advice you'd give every undergraduate about networking?
“It’s not what you know, it’s who you know” is a very true statement. But don’t just meet people, make them remember you…preferably for something positive.

Relationships/Family/Personal Stuff:
24. Are you currently in a relationship? If so, with who and for how long?
Yes, I’m recently engaged to Kaitlyn Beltz and we’ve been dating for roughly a little over a year and a half.

25. Do you have kids? If so, how old and their names?
We have two kids, their names are Miller and Lite, and we like to spend a lot of time with them.

26. Hobbies that you are currently into? What do you like to do in your spare time?
Flying, watching NASCAR, fishing, golfing, and playing piano or guitar.

27. Anything you would like to share with other brothers through the blog regarding your relationship/family/personal life?
Nothing in particular I want to share but I’m an open book, if you want to know, ask!
