This week's brother interview is on brother Pat Hoffman '08!

Patrick J. Hoffman

2. Your current location?
Ocean City, NJ

3. Your Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn account links (or other websites as well)?
Do Not Have

Fraternity Stuff:
4. Badge Number?

5. Pledge Class Name?

6. Fraternity Nickname, if you remember it?
CrowBar

7. Story behind how you got your nickname, if you remember it?
Not 100% sure of how the name came about, but a Crowbar is sure handy to have around.

8. Your fondest memory of being a Phi Psi?
My fondest memory has to be initiation, because after all the weeks of studying and hard work your goal of becoming a brother is finally achieved. At that point you are no longer just part of a pledge class but a part of something even greater.

9. Your most embarrassing moment as a Phi Psi?
My most embarrassing moment occurred during my first rush week as a brother during our hooters night. Each year a brother would get picked for it to be “their birthday” and to be put on display for all to see and that night I drew the short straw.

10. Your proudest moment as a Phi Psi?
My most proudest moment was on Big/Little Night when I finally got my little I had been waiting a year for Nick Monsu. I may not have been the best Big out there but I sure got an awesome Little.

11. Any unique memories from your time as a Phi Psi?
My mind is full of great times spent during my time as a brother between gatherings at the house, homecoming, greek week, and formal, but the most unique thing was when you were having a crap day or things were just not going right you always had your brothers to turn to to cheer you up. This rang true when my grandfather passed away and seeing my brothers who took time out of there day to come to his viewing. They were always there in ones time of need.

12. Any fraternal advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
My advice to the undergrads is to be more involved in the workings of Phi Psi. Run for an officer position or at least get involved in the committees that make up our organization. I didn’t involve myself as much as I should and it limited my experience as an active brother.

13. When was the last time you visited Rowan or the chapter?
2013

14. What is favorite event the chapter holds?
My favorite event has to be Formal, because it is a celebration that culminates everything that we worked for in that year. Its our time to catch up with alumni that we don’t often get to see and its one of the last times we get to have together as brothers before finals and before everyone heads home for the summer.

15. Who's the 1 brother you want to reconnect with / see interviewed here?
Mike Melilo

16. Name 1 friend you made in NJE you still keep in touch with...
Christopher Hammer

17. Year you graduated from Rowan?
2011

18. Degree(s) you graduated Rowan with?
Bachelors of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering

19. Any advanced degrees or certifications you have?
None at this time

20. Your current occupation?
Engineering Field Tech

21. Number of years in that occupation?
3

22. Any career advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
My advice it to start interning asap for your field of choice, because it might turn out be something you love or something you may hate, college cost a ton make sure you spend that money wisely!

23. What's one piece of advice you'd give every undergraduate about networking?
My advice it to get out there and make yourself known, through job fairs, talking to alumni, professors, advisors, etc… It doesn’t hurt you it only helps you. I networked very little but fortunately the little that I did helped me get the job that I have today.

Relationships/Family/Personal Stuff:
24. Are you currently in a relationship? If so, with who and for how long?
Yes, for 6 months (prefer to not disclose name)

25. Do you have kids? If so, how old and their names?
None

26. Hobbies that you are currently into? What do you like to do in your spare time?
When I’m not working I like to stay active, I CrossFit 5-6 days a week along with participate in CrossFit completions. I’m an avid fishermen going multiple times a week during the spring/summer and traveling to different states to try new fishing spots. In the winters I enjoy snowboarding and skiing and taking time to relax before the rush of the summer comes. I’m always looking to try something new and keeping things spontaneous.

27. Anything you would like to share with other brothers through the blog regarding your relationship/family/personal life?
The one thing I would like to share is a small piece of advice. Don’t ever limit yourself or let someone tell you that you can do/achieve something and strive for the goals that all the goals that you set for yourself. You’re the one in control of your life so make it what you want it to be not what someone else wants it to be.

  1. I think I can shed a little light on the nickname question. You see, as some of you may know the Crow is the mascot of AXP. Pat you rushed AXP, might have even pledged them, my memory is a bit foggy in my later years. That and, well lets face it, you were kind of a tool back then. Those two things mixed with a night of drinking led to the birth of your mysterious and quite clever nickname. I can neither confirm nor deny having any part in the creation of this nickname. That one you'll have to take up with your big. Yup, just thought i'd clarify. That and... LAMBDA ^^^^^^!!!!
