This week's brother interview is on brother Ryan Duca '01!

Ryan Duca

2. Your current location?
Sicklerville, NJ

3. Your Facebook/Twitter account links?

Fraternity Stuff:
4. Badge Number?
31

5. Pledge Class Name?
Beta

6. Fraternity Nickname, if you remember it?
Pledge HJ

7. Story behind how you got your nickname, if you remember it?
While we were driving down to Florida on Spring Break 2001 (the semester I was pledging), we had stopped in Georgia at a rest stop…and by rest stop, I mean strip club. There was little chance that any of us were going in, but I was asked to go see if they were open. I had been up for the entire ride from NJ to GA and just woke up from a very short power nap. I said that I was too tired and didn't want to go up there, so we sent Tuna instead. After this, there was a joke that I may be gay and therefore I was named Hammer Jr., after a Great Phi Psi whom was also gay. I had been called "pledge" by my big in a non-hazing, joking fashion the entire time I was pledging, which led to the nickanme "Pledge HJ". At first KB would not tell me what HJ really stood for, he actually tried to keep it from me until I graduated college. I was known as Pledge Human Jackass until I found out the true meaning.

8. Your fondest memory of being a Phi Psi?
As cliche as it sounds, my initiation was very unique (thanks to Russ) and also very important to me.

9. Your most embarrassing moment as a Phi Psi?
Thank God for adrenaline or the following would have never been possible. I'm a rather portly fellow and its not that I am embarrassed to take my shirt off in front of people…but in front of the whole Greek community, on stage performing a Chip-n-Dale's SNL skit…I was a bit nervous. Matt Davidson, or as we like to call him Greek God 2004, decided he would perform the great SNL skit as Patrick Swayze with his "Greek Godass-istant", me, as Chris Farley. I won't take all the credit for getting us the crown that year…but my topless "worm" was spectacular!

10. Your proudest moment as a Phi Psi?
My proudest moment was the semester that I performed the initiation ritual as President. Of course I had the best vice president this chapter's regime ever saw, Rich Farally, up there there with me… I feel that we knocked it out of the park. All the practice leading up to that day paid off and in the end, I could not have been happier to initiate those new Brothers.

11. Any unique memories from your time as a Phi Psi?
I know right now that blogspot.com probably doesn't have enough room in their database for all of my unique memories…so here's the most unique/fun: The semester that I pledged, 9 Brothers and I took a 2-car road trip to sunny West Palm Beach, Florida for Spring Break. For that week, I felt that I was already a Brother and I knew that this organization was where I belonged. Cheese balls, piranhas, parking blocks, pool-side bbqs, peanut butter, GGs and FNBs…we did it all! Do you front?

12. Any fraternal advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Remain involved. Remain involved after Rush Week. Remain involved after Pinning. Remain involved after Initiation. Remain involved after Graduation. And if you believe in that sort of thing…Remain involved after Death.

2005

14. Degree(s) you graduated Rowan with?

19. Any career advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Never be afraid to use your affiliation with the National Fraternity in searching for jobs. There are Phi Psi's working in every occupation imaginable and are always willing to help out when possible. Always keep in mind that you must enter into a professional relationship with these Brother's whether they are line-level, your superior or the business owner. Just be thankful that they were able to give you the opportunity and never take it for granted.

Relationships/Family/Personal Stuff:
20. Are you currently in a relationship? If so, with who and for how long?
Yes with my Phi Psi Sweetheart, Sarah Duca. We have been together for 11 years and married for 7.

Yes, a strapping young Legacy, Matty (Matthew Ryan Jr.) who will be 2 years old in December

22. Hobbies that you are currently into? What do you like to do in your spare time?
What is spare time…oh is that the time when I try to play video games or catch up on TV shows? I also enjoy geocaching and coin collecting as sort of non-traditional hobbies, which I plan to take up more once Matty is a little older.

23. Anything you would like to share with other brothers through the blog regarding your relationship/family/personal life?
Not particularly through the blog but if you want to grab a drink sometime, I'll be glad to talk about any of the aforementioned items.
