Fraternity Stuff:
4. Badge Number?
152
5. Pledge Class Name?
Chi
6. Fraternity Nickname, if you remember it?
P.A.T. (powder actuated tools)
7. Story behind how you got your nickname, if you remember it?
The 'tool' part of the nickname isn't as much the story as the acronym. During pledging in Fall 2011 I had a member of my family pass away and I spoke about it at our weekly meeting. Understandably, or so I thought, I cried about it and of course that's the part that everybody held onto. My Great Grand-Big Pat Hoffman, as it was explained to me, also had a propensity for shows of emotion and thus I was named after him.
8. Your fondest memory of being a Phi Psi?
When my grandfather died in Fall 2012, the first person I talked to about it wasn't a member of my family, it wasn't my girlfriend, it was my pledge brother Matt Bratsch. I pulled him aside before a meeting only about an hour or two after I found out and he comforted me like I knew only he could. It meant so much to me, as an only child, to have a true brother there for me at a moment like that. He sat next to me that meeting and comforted me again as I explained what had happened to everybody else, and I can't thank him enough for being there for me.
9. Your most embarrassing moment as a Phi Psi?
My most embarrassing moment as a Phi Psi probably occurred when the Omega class was revealed and I celebrated and gloated that my little, Dean, was fourth in the class of ten (still less than 1 but I took what I could get). The true embarrassment came about when their educator, Sean Kennedy, stepped forward to rearrange them, placing Dean sixth and forcing me to eat my words in front of the entire fraternity in the midst of Initiation.
10. Your proudest moment as a Phi Psi?
Watching my embarrassment of a little win Vice President. The number 6 never looked so much like a 1.
11. Any unique memories from your time as a Phi Psi?
Far too many to count/recount.
12. Any fraternal advice you would give to an undergraduate Phi Psi today?
Make the fraternity an active part of all aspects of your life. Don't try to segment everything you do and break it all up into parts because it doesn't work out. Make Phi Psi an active part of everything you do and it'll pay dividends, personally and professionally.
