How does a chapter go from one of
the best groups in Phi Kappa Psi to the best nationally over the course of a
year? Start \with a very motivated group of individuals in 2011 when the
chapter was Accredited with Distinction and over the course of the next years
(to quote Sean Peterson), “Do work, son.” During the 2011 academic year,
brothers positively impacted Rowan University and the community through a
variety of leadership positions, an enormous amount of philanthropic activities,
and working with other Phi Psi and Rowan chapters.
“The outstanding brothers of Phi Kappa Psi are role models
to all here at Rowan University and go above and beyond their duties as a
chapter.” Holly Tonnisen, President Theta Phi Alpha
During the academic year, the
chapter completed nearly 1600 hours of community service and raised over $8000
for various philanthropies. For
Thanksgiving, the chapter worked with our brothers at Drexel University to cook
and donate food to soup kitchens in Philadelphia. During the Polar Bear Plunge, 20 brothers
volunteered for the event, another 7 took the plunge, and the group raised over
$1,500 for the Special Olympics. For a
fundraiser for St. Baldrick’s Day, three brothers shaved their heads to help
raise money and awareness for childhood cancer research. The remainder of the chapter helped to raise
funds totally nearly $2,500, far exceeding the original goal of $1000.
“The gentlemen of Rowan University’s chapter of Phi Kappa
Psi exemplify exactly what fraternity men should be like.” Samantha Dinkin

In addtion to contributing to the
operations of the chapter, our members are part of over 30 campus organizations
including SGA, The Whit, and Residence Life.
Not content to simply be a part of these groups, brothers held
leadership roles in many organizations including SGA, IGC, IFC, and The Order
of Omega.
Before being honored at The Grand
Arch Council, Rowan University recognized the chapter as the Outstanding
Student Organization of the year and Anthony Reid was nominated for the Outstanding
Student Leader award.
One of the defining characteristics
of our chapter has been the strong support and active involvement of our
alumni. The chapter was cited for holding
numerous events which alumni have consistently attended over the years. Numerous alumni have also been generous with
their time by partnering with undergraduates as part of a mentoring program
which was instituted last year. Ryan
Wolven spearheaded this effort last year in and is looking for additional volunteers.
Recognition
should be given to AJ Carchidi and Mike Bramley for putting together a very
impressive award application. Anyone who
has completed a chartering or accreditation packet can attest to the amount of
effort needed to compile the achievements of the chapter over the course of the
year.
At the annual Alumni & Family
BBQ on August 25th, we will come together before the start of another academic
year to relive fond memories, renew friendships, and make new connections. The chapter will be celebrating its Grand
Chapter Award for the first time as a group since the closing banquet in San
Antonio.
“I strongly believe, if I were a guy, I’d be a Phi Kappa Psi
at Rowan University” – Gabrielle Giordano, President Alpha Sigma Alpha
